WIP Wed the pillowcase chronicles

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
now that's done, let's get some quilting and sewing done for ourselves - no more gift making and cooking

This is my newest obsession, making pillowcases. I know alot of you out there have been doing this for awhile but I guess I'm slow on the take sometimes. They are quick, easy and you get to play with your fabric - AND clean out some of your stash. just thik of that novelty fabric you just had to have 3 years ago and it's still sitting on the shelf. There is a good tutorial here if you would like to do a few. The idea is to donate them, although you could keep some for yourself of course. I plan on giving mine to local houses that give cancer patients a free place to stay with their family while here under going treatment.

this is my WIP and will be for awhile - another one of those David Taylor inspired "why did I ever start this thing" projects. It's a hot mess right now but just you wait - it'll transform 8-/

and for anyone interested the pattern / tutorial I maade for the moose is on Craftsy available for free download. go here for that

Quilt On!

  1. I couldn't figure out how you found my blog until I came here. I love that you're showing your WIP. I also think your pillowcases are very cool. I have lots of fabric from my grandma's old clothes and plan to make each of my family members a pillow case from it. When she died at 101 1/2 everyone thought I was crazy to ask for her dresses. :)

  2. lots of WIPS! Great job on them! I am stopping by from the WIP hop, I would love to have you come by and see what I have been up to :)

  3. Beautiful pillowcases! and the moose is fun too :D Avis x

  4. I just did 26 pillowcases...making them is like eating potato chips, no body can eat just one! Yours are so pretty too. I am donating mine through our guild's Outreach Program. I think they go to a local Ronald McDonald house. And you are right about using up fabric! I cannot describe how freeing it was to finally let go of some fabric! I am one of those quilters who has trouble cutting into fabrics. hahaha

I have a little more room in my stash now. I don't intend on filling it in right away. You'd be amazed at how many yards of fabric I found under what I used! It is like my stash gave me a stash for Christmas!

  5. There is a movement in honor of the kids killed in Newton that is calling for doing 26 random acts of kindness. My goal is to make 26 pillowcases eventually and you have already done it :-) awesome!

  6. I just saw two of David Taylor's quilts at the LaConner (WA) Quilt and Textile museum... they were fabulous! I particularly liked his Barn Cat and looked up his website and saw he has more barn animals in the series. I'll look forward to seeing how your project goes. I also do a lot of pictorial quilts, with dogs and horses being some of my favorite subjects.

  7. Love those pillowcases! I can't wait to see the dog finished... Are you appliqueing him? If so, you're mad! Simply mad! LOL! Good luck!

  8. Thank you for commenting on my blog! For Christmas, for the grandchildren, I made pillowcases and used those to wrap small gifts!

  9. Can't wait to see that dog quilt!!
