Free moose silloutte pattern / WIP Wed

Go to my Craftsy pattern shop to download this free PDF pattern. Once you get the silloutte cut out it is really quick and easy, especially if you've done fusible appliqué before.

Merry Christmas!

The only thing I finished last week was the moose pattern and sample and the last of these key lanyards for the room cleaners at work.

We took a trip to see my parents for Christmas and used my sewing organizer which is perfect for driving. I always have to have something to sew by hand while on a long drive (as the passenger) and am always dropping and loosing my scissors, at a sharp turn - pincushion and stuff goes flying! Since its all weighted down it stays in place plus you keep all your strings ect. off the car floor.

Today I start a new project - all turned under freezer paper appliqué with 70, yes count em, 70! Little tiny pieces. I consider this an exercise in patience if not stupidity .

At least I have a helper;-)

And if you tweet, there will be a Boxing Day sew in today. Hash tag #BDSI

I am @quiltscapes and follow mostly quilters - it's a great way to Interact with like minded people

(Or should I say "quilting obsessed" people ;-))))

WIP Wed 12/19/12

I'm reworking a pattern I had for sale on craftsy in my pattern shop that was the first one I did and is pretty rough - to long and detailed and the photos are bad. I think I may put it up for free hoping that will bring people to buy some of the others.

So I'm making another moose - these are pretty quick to do after you get the cutting part done.

I'm quilting him today.

Also finished a couple of these sewing organizers. Sooooo handy.

Put one up in my Etsy shop

And last night made a big batch of puppy chow.

Gave it out as little gifts and called it reindeer chow :-)

I used this recipe - but used green and red M&M's and added pretzels.

Really good

Little bits

I always feel the need to make things for people for Christmas. Some appreciate it, some don't.

Jackie at Sew Excited Quilts made some needle books the other day, which got me inspired

So today I made one

Kinda looks like a bible although that was not the plan.

Oh, I meant to say - here is my needle book, I thought I would make it look like a bible and it came out just as planned ;-)

There is a key ring clip on the ribbon so I can clip it to something.

The other thing I've been making are key lanyards that go around your neck. I work in a hotel and I'm making one for all the room cleaners master keys. There are 12, so I should be able to do it.

These are pretty quick and easy - here is the tutorial from simply cotton. I didn't piece all the little bits like she did but I need to get these done. Would be a. Great scrap busting project though.

WIP Wed. 12/12/12

Today is 12/12/12! What that means I don't know but I believe it means I will get a lot done today (maybe)

Last week I made this little art quilt and finished the pattern / tutorial on how to make it.

I put it up for sale ($4 bucks PDF download) on Craftsy here.

Still working on the pincushions, waiting for the hand sewing and stuffing to get done.

Guess I've been a slacker :-)

Not really, cause I made this

and finished quilting it, now for the binding (more hand work) guess I need to sit and watch some TV

Or maybe gaze out the window at my neighbor's Xmas tree - pretty cool, huh?

carolina chickadee

Debbie over at stitchin therapy blog made her version of my chickadee pattern and it turned out great! (I like her's better than the one I made)
here's what she said about it:
I had to get a little creative and switch it around to fit my wired table top hanger. My size is 13" by 16".  I added an extra layer of batting behind the chickadee and the pine cone to get a slight trapunto effect.   So thank you, I really am happy with it.  The directions and tutorial were great.  I had no problem at all with them. Debbie Clarke
thank you Debbie for making my pattern and sending me the photo:-)

WIP Wed 12/5/12 Kennel quilt finish

Finished the disappearing 9 patch kennel quilt. My boss and I share a love for our dogs and she has a yellow lab named Gretzky (I know the name is sad but her husband is a hockey freak). Gretzky sleeps in his kennel or crate (his choice the door is open) and I made this for him for Christmas. My boss does not get a present - her dog does :-) the quilt ended up at 32" square, not knowing the size of his crate, I just hope it fits. I have no experience with dog crates / kennels so if any one has any suggestions on sizes I would appreciate any insight. I did a lot of close stippling so it should be really comfy especially after washing. That's another question I have - do you wash your quilt before giving or selling it? My only experiences have been art wall quilts which are not but have heard of washing first before sending them out into the world.

What do you do?

My WIP is this

It's supposed to look like this

I had to rip out two mistakes and filled the weight bag to much so am having trouble stuffing it

BUT once I get the technique down, the next one will be easy. I feel I need a couple of these and Sew Mamma Sew has a free tutorial for it, go here to check it out. Next week I WILL have a few completed ones to show.

Happy Quilting!

Up North

My mom gave me this as an early Christmas present - it is hanging in my office. It is so beautiful!
I'm dreaming of the day when I can look out my window and see a scene like this every day.

she made it from a pattern called Up North,  by Sue Pritt

It's pretty big, measures 49" x 44"
it certainly makes a statement - perfect for my office as it needed a focal point of interest

the pattern is all fusible applique which does make it rather heavy when finished though

my mom said it was a bitch to quilt because of the heavy factor
but she did an awesome job

THANK YOU MOM!!!

the fat quarter shop is awesome!

I just wanted to say how great the customer service is at this online quilt / fabric shop .
they had alot of volume on cyber monday (due to a killer sale, I might add) and sent an email to me saying that my items are just being shipped out, sorry for the delay and here is a $10.00 off coupon code for my next order for the trouble. Most other online shops (including a chain store starting with the letter J) has  the same hold up with shipping on an every day basis and you don't hear a word from them, certainly not a discount. So I just wanted to give the fat quarter shop a big shout out of
THANK YOU FOR EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

fyi: I have no affiliation with them at all, I just like to give credit where credit is due just as much as I would call someone or a company that gives exceptional poor customer service.
